Heather Zoppetti

Heather Zoppetti is a knitwear designer, teacher, and author of Everyday Lace (Interweave, 2014) and Unexpected Cables (Interweave, 2015). She lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her patterns have been published in many Interweave publications, in Vogue Knitting, Creative Knitting, and by many yarn companies. 

Heather is also the owner and founder of Stitch Sprouts, a company dedicated to helping your stitches grow. 

She loves coffee, cats, and the Oxford comma. 


 

Class: Brioche

Yarn will be provided

Duration: 6 Hours

Description: Brioche is one of those “advanced” techniques that all knitters want to try, but many never do. The fabric is rich with texture and results in an extremely squishable material. At its most basic, brioche is a ribbed stitch that results in a dense reversible fabric. It shares many similarities to one of the double knitting methods. Students will learn the basics of brioche and how to reach brioche charts. The first half of this class we will learn the basic 1 and 2 color brioche; the second half will be dedicated to learning more advanced techniques of increases and decreases and working on a project.

Prerequisites: Knit, purl, cast-on, bind-off, k2tog, p2tog, yo, chart reading skills are a big plus.

Supplies needed:

There are three projects supplied for this class (easy, medium, advanced) which students will be able to choose which they prefer to start based on their comfort level. Supplies will vary based on which project.

Easy:

240 yds dk wt yarn, X2 in contrasting colors 

US #6 needle (circular required)

Medium:
300 yds sport wt yarn, X2 in contrasting colors

US #6 needle (circular required)

Advanced:
400 yds worsted wt yarn, X2 in contrasting colors

US #7 needle (circular required)

Students should also bring extra yarn for swatching and practice for class outside of the project yarn, plus regular notions such as stitch markers, highlighter tape, scissors, etc.

Homework: Please have your yarn wound and ready to knit.


Class: Embellished Knitting

Duration: 3 Hours

Description: Learn to embellish your knitting with embroidery, woven techniques, and beads. Take your knitting from average to amazing with these fun techniques.

Prerequisites: Knit, purl, cast-on, bind-off, basic chart reading skills a plus.

Supplies needed:

Fingering weight yarn, various colors for embellishing your knitting.

#10 [1.25mm] crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Homework:

We will use these swatches for embellishing in class, please have them blocked so they lay flat.

Swatch #1

With worsted weight yarn and size 6 needle, CO 40 sts. Knit 8 rows. 

Next Row (RS): Knit.

Next Row (WS): K5, purl to last 5, k5.

Repeat last 2 rows until swatch measures 5”, ending with WS row. Knit 8 rows. BO all sts loosely.

Swatch #2

With worsted weight yarn and size 6 needle, CO 34 sts.

Row 1 (RS): *K2, p2; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2 (WS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Repeat last 2 rows until swatch measures 5”.

Swatch #3

With worsted weight yarn and size 6 needles, CO 34 sts.

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Repeat last row until swatch measures 5”.


Class: Entrelac

Yarn will be provided

Duration: 3 Hours

Description: Entrelac looks like woven strips of material, but really each square is knit individually. Learn how to make this magical fabric using just basic knitting skills.

Prerequisites: Knit, purl, cast-on, k2tog, p2tog, ssk.

Supplies needed:

Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors. (I do not recommend cotton or acrylic for this)

Size 7 or 8 needles

Stitch markers

Homework: Please bring your yarn wound and ready to knit.
