Alicia Plummer is a lover of literature and storytelling in all forms. She transcribes metaphors and stories through texture and stitch, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, memories, and feelings. When she is not knitting, she is busy spending time with her family exploring the outdoors, renovating her 1800s home in Midcoast Maine, or reading. She also loves animals and hugs. You can find her on Instagram as Aliciaplums, & she is also the coauthor of Plum Dandi Knits.
Class 1: The knitted fabric is a blank page full of potential where we get to write our stories. Come join us as Alicia shares how she transcribes life into stitches and discusses the importance of storytelling and listening. Learn the simple method she uses to quiet the noise of the outside world. Please print pen & paper.
Step outside of traditional storytelling to preserve a story, a song, an experience. Memories can be stitched into a piece with love and intention, rather than just told. Together, we will find our voices and tell our stories through a slow approach of appreciation and representation. You will become the designer, transcribing the metaphor of moment through texture and stitch. Your finished piece will be a story cowl full of symbolism and beauty.
Class 2: Take the tension out of knitting and leave it in your swatch! Seaming doesn’t have to be stressful and in fact can be a calming, enjoyable part of your knitting. In this class you will learn why seams are so important on certain garments, how to work a variety of seams, (mattress, Kitchener, whipstitch, and a hybrid) multiple ways to weave in ends and how to determine if a seam type is right for your project!
Homework: Knit 4 swatches using smooth bulky weight yarn and US13 needles in the following manner: Cast on 16 stitches, and knit until your swatch is square. Work in plain Stockinette. Bind off. Do not add a selvedge.
Materials: Bring your 4 swatches, as well as an extra same weight yarn in a contrast color, US8 knitting needles, darning needle, scissors, pen and paper.
Class 3: Have you ever wanted to process your own fleece, but found the entire concept overwhelming and inaccessible due to the cost? In this class, Alicia will take you through each step of processing raw wool using simple, affordable tools that you can find at the local hardware and grocery stores! By the end of this class you will be able to pick, wash, card/comb and SPIN yarn from your very own hand processed wool. Let's get our hands dirty!
