Knit to Fit: Customizing Sweaters for Your Body

Class Description:
Have you ever knit a sweater only to find that it doesn’t fit quite the way you hoped? Knit to Fit was created in response to the many questions I received while working in a yarn shop—knitters wanted to know how I adjusted patterns to create sweaters that flattered my body shape. Now, I’m sharing my secrets with you!

In this class, you’ll learn how to:
✔️ Take accurate body measurements to ensure a perfect fit.
✔️ Identify and troubleshoot common sweater-fitting issues.
✔️ Use a simple formula to modify increases and decreases, allowing you to tailor any pattern to your shape.

This class is all about empowering you to make sweaters that fit your body beautifully!

What to Bring:
📏 A measuring tape
👕 Your favorite sweater, shirt, blouse, or sweatshirt for reference

Join me and take the guesswork out of sweater knitting—because every knitter deserves a perfect fit!

Embroider Your Knits: Adding Flair with Stitches

Class Description:

Take your knitting to the next level with embroidery! In this 3-hour hands-on workshop, youʼll learn how to embellish your knits using simple embroidery stitches that add texture, color, and personality to your

projects. Working on a small knitted swatch (provided by the instructor), weʼll cover essential embroidery techniques perfect for decorating sweaters, hats, scarves, and more.

No embroidery experience? No problem! This class is designed for all skill levels, and youʼll leave with the confidence to incorporate embroidery into your future knits. Come stitch, experiment, and have fun adding a personal touch to your handmade pieces!

Step Into Socks: Mastering the Shadow Wrap Heel

Class Description:

Ready to elevate your sock knitting skills? In this hands-on workshop, weʼll dive into the Shadow Wrap Heel technique̶a smooth, gap-free short-row heel thatʼs perfect for any sock knitterʼs toolkit! Using the Wee Stockings pattern, youʼll practice this technique on a small-scale project, making it the perfect way to learn without the commitment of a full-sized sock. This method creates a beautifully contoured heel with minimal fuss, giving your socks a professional finish.

Sheep Locks Wreath: Knitting with Texture & Curls

Class Description:

Discover the magic of knitting with sheep locks in this fun and unique workshop! In this hands-on class, youʼll learn how to incorporate natural locks into your knitting as we create an adorable 6” wreath̶, a perfect decoration for any fiber lover.

The instructor will provide sheep locks, a wreath form, and yarn, so all you need to bring is a pair of US 7 (16") knitting needles. Along the way, youʼll explore techniques for adding beautiful texture and curls to your knits, opening up endless creative possibilities for future projects.

Knit Corrugated Ribbing

Corrugated ribbing is a graphic decorative edging used in colorwork designs. This method is great for cuffs, brims, and sweater hems. It is a two-color

ribbing technique that uses alternating colors of yarn while alternating knit and purl stitches.

We will be making a sampler that can be used as a wrist warmer.

Skills needed: Students should know how to knit, purl, and cast on.

Monsoon Shawl

One of Angela’s most popular shawls from Interweave Knits, the Monsoon Shawl is knitted on large needles in a luxurious worsted weight yarn. The half-circle shawl works up quickly and plays color runs against a variety of lace and texture

patterns.

In the class, we will be making a mini version of the shawl. We will work through all sections of shawl:

 garter stitch tab

 garter ridge eyelet section

 lace section

 knitted-on edging

By the end of the class, students will have all the necessary skills to complete a Monsoon shawl at home.

Skills needed: Students should know how to knit,

purl, yarn over and cast on.

No Loom Weaving

Learn to weave without a loom. With a needle and thread, you will learn to weave different woven structures such as twill and dogtooth. It’s a great way to learn the basics of weaving without the complexity of a loom. You will be taking home your

woven studies where you can display them as pieces of art.

Skills needed: None. No experience needed.

Granny Triangle

Granny squares are a popular crochet motif, but have you tried a granny triangle? Learn to crochet a granny triangle in this class. Then you can make

the Granny Triangle Cowl by assembling triangles together. The pattern is in written form and charted.

Skills needed: students should know basic crochet stitches.

Mary Jane Mucklestone

Fresh Fair Isle Workshop - 6 Hour Workshop

Spend the day immersed in color, pattern, and inspiration! In this signature workshop, Mary  Jane guides you through the practical wisdom of traditional Fair Isle knitting, showing how its  principles make stranded knitting more efficient and color selection simpler.

Take the fear out of choosing colors by exploring color placement, value, and harmony. By  examining Mary Jane’s trove of swatches and hands-on experimentation, we’ll see how different  color combinations can completely transform a motif—and how to confidently create your own  palettes using easy, accessible color theory.

We’ll bring these concepts to life by knitting a simple stranded wristlet or fingerless glove—an  ideal project to explore technique, test colors, and see how traditional methods can lead to  striking modern results. With a full day together, we’ll have time to enjoy the creative process  and come away with a solid understanding of Fair Isle techniques, a more confident approach to  color, and a finished or nearly finished piece.

Skill Level:

Some experience stranded colorwork required

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, working in the round on a small diameter  piece, chart reading, experience with easy stranded colorwork.

Motifs of Maine and the Maritimes - 3 hours

Many of the charming, small-scale motifs found in traditional mittens from Maine and Canada’s  Maritime provinces echo patterns seen across the Atlantic—in the Fair Isle and Sanquar  patterns of Scotland and in textiles from Scandinavia and the Baltic states. These small  geometric motifs, handed down through the generations, form a tangible connection between  cultures on both sides of the ocean.

In this workshop, we’ll experience the delight that these simple patterns bring when they shift  and transform into different motifs. Although mittens were the primary canvas for stranded  colorwork in this region, we’ll use a cozy cowl—as our project. This will allow us to perfect our  stranded colorwork technique and try out a variety of motifs in a relaxed and manageable way.

Mary Jane will provide her Maritimes Cowl pattern as our template. Knit it exactly as written or if  you’re feeling adventurous, mix and match motifs, experiment with color, and—with Mary Jane’s  guidance—create your own unique arrangement. Whether you follow the pattern or branch out  with your own ideas, you’ll leave with an appreciation of these timeless pattern motifs.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, working in the round,  chart reading, experience with easy stranded colorwork.

Saved by the Swatch - 3 Hours

Spend a colorful afternoon learning how small practice squares—swatches—can make a big  difference in the outcome of your colorwork knitting projects. Mary Jane will show you how to  use swatching to choose colors, fix tension issues, and plan projects more confidently and  successfully.

We'll explore four different methods of knitting a colorwork swatch, finding the best method for  your future projects. A swatch lays the groundwork for a successful project, testing out color  choices, the qualities of different yarns, and achieving gauge. Swatches are the key to making  your projects look just as you imagine. They become a resource you will refer to over and over  again.

Perfect for knitters who are fairly new to colorwork or want to improve their skills, this relaxed  workshop will help you feel more confident, creative, and ready to take on colorful projects.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, working in the round, chart reading,  experience with easy stranded colorwork.
